(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs17.com\/news\/local-news\/wake-county-news\/delta-airlines-wing-flap-found-in-raleigh-driveway-after-flight-landing-incident\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"cbs17.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WNCN<\/a>) \u2013 A family in Raleigh, N.C., was shocked upon discovering a plane&#8217;s wing flap in their driveway Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The wing came\u00a0from\u00a0an aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines\u00a0that\u00a0was landing hours before this unexpected discovery.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs17.com\/news\/weird-news\/ap-snake-on-a-plane-delays-a-flight-in-australia\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\"><br \/>\n\t\tSnake on a plane delays a flight in Australia\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Delta Flight 3247 had taken off from Atlanta just after 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday night, data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/flight\/DAL3247\/history\/20250702\/0306Z\/KATL\/KRDU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FlightAware<\/a> indicates. The Boeing 737-900ER, which had 109 passengers and six crew members on board, ultimately landed safely at Raleigh Durham International Airport at approximately&nbsp;1:15 a.m. \u2014 albeit missing part of its wing flap.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, officers with the Raleigh Police Department responded to a call from residents in Raleigh who discovered the wing flap blocking part of the driveway.&nbsp;Initial findings revealed that it did indeed belong to Delta Flight 3247. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/hkerstyn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Image-6-e1751549991372-1.jpg\" alt=\"airplane\" class=\"wp-image-661953\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The flap of an airplane wing lays in a Raleigh driveway (WNCN)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were no reports of injuries or property damage.<\/p>\n<p>A Delta spokesperson&nbsp;later confirmed a portion of the left wing&#8217;s trailing edge flap separated before landing. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Delta is fully supporting retrieval efforts and will cooperate with investigations as nothing is more important than safety,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Aviation Lawyer James Crouse, after seeing initial photos of the wing flap, said he did not think the plane&#8217;s safety was compromised.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even if it came off a smaller aircraft \u2014 which was my first thought \u2014 it being a flap, as opposed to another control service \u2026 I don&#8217;t think it would affect the safety of the aircraft and landing,&#8221; Crouse, who has over 40 years of experience, told Nexstar&#8217;s WNCN.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs17.com\/news\/local-news\/wake-county-news\/5-people-taken-to-hospital-after-turbulence-on-american-airlines-flight-at-rdu\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\"><br \/>\n\t\t5 people taken to hospital after turbulence on American Airlines flight at RDU\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Crouse says he&#8217;s aware more people are on edge these days about flying, considering the recent incidents this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think anything is increasing,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Perhaps more people are flying their own aircraft these days, but I think the level of maintenance, level of design, level of construction, is probably good as it&#8217;s always been, maybe better.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The wing flap was collected from the driveway around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration is now leading the investigation\u00a0to determine\u00a0how it came off\u00a0the aircraft.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RALEIGH, N.C.
